Let's get started.
After years of compiling stories and information about my family’s ancestors, I’ve reached the point where I need to do something to get what I know out into the world. Otherwise, there is a big chance that much of what I have discovered will die with me.
When my mother’s sister, Helen Elizabeth Chandler, passed away last year, she left drawers full of assorted notes, pictures, and documents related to her family history research. She did have the foresight to make sure that they were packed up and sent to the one person in the family who would appreciate and might know what to do with them, me. As a result, over the course of about a month, box after box arrived on my doorstep, some in good condition, others, not so much. Most of these pictures and papers have been taken out of those boxes, looked at, and put in new bankers boxes where they now sit on the daybed in the corner of my office.
It soon became obvious that I needed to do something to get these stories out of their boxes and into the world where someone might find them interesting. Duly motivated, I have decided to write a blog in which I will:
- share the stories of my family and my wife’s family in as clear, concise, and interesting a manner as possible.
- provide source information for the information I post.
- share genealogy tips and tricks that I have learned from the many excellent speakers I have met over the years.
- review a book or two, especially if it pertains to genealogy history.
- share highlights and historical information related to my travels.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned.
