My grandfather, the author

My Aunt Helen often told about the time when she was a college student attending a biology class in which the teacher talked about how unlikely it was that anyone present would get to have an insect named after them. Helen cheekily said "My Daddy did," to which the professor responded "Well, not everyone can be S.C. Chandler".

Stewart Curtis Chandler was the Southern Field Entomologist for the State of Illinois. After his retirement, he taught at what is now Southern Illinois University, in Carbondale, Illinois. I'd love to know what bug is named after him but I'd be willing to wager that it was bald and could be found in peach orchards. During his tenure as state entomologist, S.C. Chandler wrote several books, or tracts if you don't wish to be generous, about insects and how to get rid of them. Out of curiosity, I looked in Google Books to see if any of them still existed and found this book, currently available on Amazon.

The book's description says that "This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
